How much of your life really reflects who you are? It is so easy to fall into ‘safe’ when writing websites, emails, and talking to clients or customers. We write how everyone else writes, after all we don’t want to offend anyone – do we?
What if 30% of people who read your website/blog/email decided they never wanted to do business with you again. What if 20% felt like they knew you and bonded with you, and thus became clients / friends / potential partners for life? When you work for yourself (and I believe everyone works for themselves) you are part of the equation. You are part of what you are selling most of the time. (there are exceptions but for most of us, we are, in some way selling not just what we do but how we do it).
I’m about to launch an ebook – an updated, bigger, better version of The Wingman Effect - (sign up now if you want to be kept informed) and am NOT going to write a long typical internet sales page. I’m not. I refuse. I don’t like them. I’ve heard they work and I may have to eat my words. (What works is what works). I believe people can see through the hype. I sometimes buy despite the sales page…. and sometimes I see that long “I’m going to talk you into it” copy and click out of there as soon as possible.
Sometimes business is about doing it your way – you can listen and learn from everyone else (and indeed you should) but the most successful (and happy) people have always found a way to work in harmony with who they are.
We do business with people we like and trust – I do business with people I like and trust.
